Material and workmanship

The bowl and handle of this teaspoon are continuously gold-plated and feel warm and evenly golden in the hand. At the lower end of the handle, just before the edge, there is a field with floral niello engraving: a stylized flower, framed by two curved leaf shapes, engraved in fine lines and filled with the black niello alloy. This alloy of silver, copper, lead and sulfur is worked by hand into the indentations and then chemically-physically bonds with the silver underneath – permanently, not painted on. This creates the characteristic contrast of gold and black, which makes this spoon more than just an ordinary piece of cutlery.
