Material and Workmanship
The icon is crafted as a riza piece: The painted image of Saint Panteleimon — face, robe, and the characteristic anointing vessel in his hand — is framed by a silver border with an ornamental edge. The border area features a fine embossed diamond pattern, and the inscription with the saint's name is placed in two oval silver fields to the left and right of the halo. The niello engraving adds dark accents to the fine lines of the border, while the partial gilding highlights the halo, frame edges, and corner elements. Mounted on the wooden base, the icon weighs approximately 220 grams, with dimensions of approximately 141 x 121 x 25 mm.
Use and Occasions
In Orthodox tradition, Saint Panteleimon is revered as the patron saint of the sick and an intercessor for healing — his icon holds a permanent place on the home altar or in the prayer corner in many homes. As a gift, the icon is suitable for the saint's name day on July 27th, as a wish for recovery for relatives, as a thank you to doctors and nursing staff, or as a keepsake passed down from generation to generation. Its compact dimensions also make it suitable as a portable gift, for instance, to a clinic.
Care
- Dust with a soft, dry cloth
- Do not use silver dip cleaner — gilding and niello engraving would be damaged
- If necessary, carefully polish bare silver surfaces with a silver cleaning cloth, keeping the wooden base dry
