The praying angel on the spoon handle

At the very top sits a gold-plated trefoil cross. Below it the angel prays in relief, a gold-plated halo above his head. A gold-plated sun with a spiral closes the motif at the bottom.

Pink enamel bands frame the scene, while the angel himself stays silver. Length approx. 13.5 cm, weight approx. 27 g: that is how the spoon turns out. The bowl is polished to a high shine.

In icons, an angel usually wears a halo. The relief takes up this visual language, only in silver, gold plating and enamel instead of on wood.

Orthodox cross in the case

The cross follows the Orthodox form. Trefoil ends, a recognisable corpus and an eyelet at the top mark it out. It is delicate, approx. 20 mm in size and approx. 1 g in weight.

Consecrated by the parish

The spoon and cross are consecrated by the Orthodox parish of the Church of the Protection and Intercession of the Virgin (Svyato-Pokrovsky) in Kolchugino. A certificate comes with the set. The consecration is meant as a church custom; it is not a promise of protection.

A personal gift, even without engraving

What do guardian angels mean?
Many Christians believe that an angel stands at every person’s side. The Orthodox Church explicitly knows the angel of the baptised. As a christening gift, the motif stands for care and security.

How do I care for enamel and gold plating?
Treat both like silver. Rinse the set by hand in lukewarm water and dry it with a soft cloth. It does not tolerate a dishwasher.
