Material and workmanship
The bowl rests on a slender base, and its interior is fully polished and gold-plated – a warm, noble surface for salt, spices, or honey. The exterior is matte and features a circumferential niello floral band with gold-plated accent flowers; the top rim and the base ring are also gold-plated. The accompanying mini spoon, at 80 mm, is the smallest in its collection: the round bowl is gold-plated and features a hand-engraved niello flower with enamel accents, the matte handle concludes with another niello floral group, and the back is fully gold-plated. Both pieces come from the same SevChern manufacture.
Usage and occasions
With a 30 ml capacity, the bowl is intended for individual portions: sea salt or fleur de sel for seasoning at the table, a spice blend while cooking, a spoonful of honey for tea, or jam for breakfast. The 80 mm long spoon is perfectly matched to the small bowl – long enough to grasp comfortably, short enough not to protrude over the edge. Why is the spoon so small?
