Description
A salt shaker, a pepper shaker, and an oval serving tray made of 925 sterling silver, all three featuring the same floral niello ornament – blossoms and leaf vines, fused in black into the polished silver. The tray holds both shakers and brings them together on the table as a unit rather than as loose individual pieces.
At a glance
- Material: 925 sterling silver, niello, highly polished
- Set contents: salt shaker, pepper shaker, oval serving tray
- Shakers (each): height 55 mm, diameter 42.5 mm
- Serving tray: width 94 mm, length 164 mm, oval with a curved ornamental edge
- Total weight: approx. 228 g
Material and workmanship
All three pieces come from the SevChern manufactory in Veliky Ustyug, Northern Russia, a center of niello silver art with a documented tradition dating back to 1683. The floral ornament – blossom shapes with multiple petals, surrounding leaf vines – is crafted identically on all three pieces: fused in black into the polished silver, flush with the surface, with no applied layers or coatings. On the tray, the ornament runs only along the edge, while the center remains smoothly polished so that the shakers stand securely.
Use and occasions
A solid silver salt and pepper set belongs to those items that are handled daily and remain visible – on the breakfast table, during dinner, or when guests are present. As a gift, it is suitable for a wedding, a housewarming, a milestone birthday, or an anniversary. A set of this kind is also a representative choice as a corporate gift, as it will actually be used in everyday life rather than disappearing into a cupboard.
Engraving and SilberVerse card
A personal engraving is possible upon review – the specialists at SevChern examine each piece individually to determine which form and placement of engraving is appropriate and make concrete suggestions. Upon request, we can also include a personal SilberVerse card in 15 × 10 cm photo format, individually designed to suit the occasion and free of charge.
Care
- Hand wash: warm water, mild dish soap, soft cloth
- No dishwasher, no silver dip bath
- Remove tarnish with a silver polishing cloth
- Niello is resistant to normal care; its color and depth will not change
