Description
Eleven flames, approx. 66 centimeters, more than six kilograms of silver: This candelabrum is the middle of three configurations — and the right one for most tables.
At a glance
- Candelabrum made of 925 sterling silver, eleven sockets
- Height approx. 66 cm
- Silver weight approx. 6.29 kg
- Arms in two levels around the shaft, all ending at the same height
- Round chased foot, baluster shaft with acanthus
- Zaramella Argenti, Padua — manufacturer since 1948
What two extra flames make
Between the nine-flame version and this one, there are two arms — and over two kilograms of silver. That sounds like little, but it makes a significant difference in the room.
The reason lies in the construction: Each additional arm not only needs itself, but also a wider wreath and a stronger shaft to support the weight. The series therefore does not grow linearly, but disproportionately.
For the effect, this means: Eleven flames completely fill a wreath. With nine, there is visible space between the arms; with twelve, it gets dense. Eleven is the point where both come together.
The three configurations
- nine flames — approx. 4.15 kg, the entry level
- eleven flames — this piece, approx. 6.29 kg
- twelve flames — approx. 6.75 kg, the fullest version
All three have the same height. For those wavering between eleven and twelve: The difference in weight is small, hardly visible in the image. Between nine and eleven is the real jump.
Light and Silver
Silver reflects over 95 percent of visible light. On a candelabrum with eleven flames, this means: The light is not only emitted but also reflected and scattered by the polished arms and shaft. The room is illuminated more softly than by the same number of free-standing candles.
Before electrification, this was exactly the purpose. A silver candelabrum was not a luxury item but the most effective lighting device one could have.
For which table
A candelabrum stands in the middle and presents the same image from all sides — which makes it the right choice for round tables and for rooms where it is viewed from multiple sides. At approx. 66 cm, the light is above eye level, and the view across the table remains unobstructed.
For long tables, arranging several single-armed candlesticks is the better solution. Both together — a candelabrum in the center, candlesticks at the ends — create the classic arrangement for large tables.
The time without candles
On most days, nothing burns here. This is not an argument against such a piece, but one for its placement: A candelabrum of this size belongs on a sideboard, a console, or in a tall display cabinet, where the chased shaft and the arm wreath act as a silhouette.
A practical tip: With eleven arms, the wreath collects dust. If the piece is left exposed, it should be dusted with a soft brush once a month — this saves more elaborate cleaning later.
Candles and Wax
Tapered candles of usual thickness. Wax detaches by itself after brief cooling; never use a blade, as silver is softer than steel.
Engraving
The foot rim offers space for an occasion and date. A candelabrum is rarely bought spontaneously — usually, there's an anniversary behind it, and an engraving records which one. We advise in advance on size and placement; upon request, we include a SilberVerse card.
Care
By hand with warm water, mild detergent, and a soft cloth, then dry thoroughly. No dishwasher. A narrow cloth is suitable for the eleven arms, a soft brush for the chasing. The darker depth may remain in the recesses. More in the guide on the care of silver cutlery and silver dinnerware.
Frequently Asked Questions
How does it differ from the twelve-flame version?
In one arm and about half a kilogram of silver. The twelve-flame version appears somewhat denser in the wreath, at the same height.
Is this a Chanukiah?
No. A Chanukiah has nine arms in a specific arrangement — eight at one height, one elevated. This candelabrum distributes eleven equally positioned sockets around the shaft. Chanukkiot can be found under Judaica made of 925 silver.
How heavy is it?
Approx. 6.29 kg of solid sterling silver. It requires both hands to move.
Solid or silver-plated?
Solid 925 sterling silver, hallmarked. No plating.
Is it delivered in gift packaging?
Yes, in high-quality packaging from the manufacturer.
