Instead of floral tips or curved volutes, each handle ends with a sculptural form inspired by an antique column capital – stepped profiles, clean edges, a serene geometric composition. The niello pattern on the handle shaft follows the same logic: small, uniformly recurring leaf tendrils instead of naturalistic blossoms. In this set, the SevChern manufactory also extends the pattern over the back of the spoon bowl and the back of the fork tines – a detail less common in standard niello sets.

Material and craftsmanship

All four pieces are made of 925 sterling silver, manufactured in the SevChern manufactory in Veliky Ustyug, where the art of niello has been documented since 1683. Before the niello enamel, there is hand engraving: the leaf tendril pattern is worked line by line into the silver before the dark niello mass is melted in and polished. The dinner spoon in this set, weighing approx. 103 grams, is significantly heavier than commercial dinner spoons, which usually weigh between 50 and 70 grams – an indication of the high silver content in the solidly crafted handle and the sculptural column capital finial.

Care

After use, hand wash the set with warm water and mild dish soap and dry it with a soft cotton cloth.
