Description
Three stemless cups in a polished silver stand — no design coincidence, but a Perevyortyshi tradition dating back to the court of Peter the Great. Перевёртыш means "the inverted one": you drink it empty, turn the cup upside down, and place it on its opening. If nothing spills out, you've drunk honestly — a gesture that proves sincerity among friends, without words.

Material and workmanship
All three cups and the stand bear the same ornament: oak leaves and acorns, handcrafted in niello engraving on polished 925 silver, with the leaf surfaces plated in fine gold. In Slavic tradition, the oak was considered the sacred tree of the thunder god Perun — a symbol of strength, courage, endurance, and loyalty, also known in Russia as the "Tsar's Oak." On a Perevyortyshi cup, the oak is not a random ornament, but rather tells of a strength that does not hide. Green gemstones, presumably chrysoprase, adorn the conical tips of the cups — a color accent that adds an additional facet to the black-silver-gold of the niello. The set comes from the SevChern manufactory in Veliky Ustyug, one of the three major niello centers in Russia alongside Tula and Kubachi in the Caucasus, with a 340-year-old tradition. The gemstones are individually set; slight differences between the three cups are not a flaw, but rather the individual signature of the engraving.
Use and occasions
Three is a special number at the Russian table — three friends, three brothers, a father with two sons, three business partners who built something together. This set is intended for a circle small enough to be honest: pour, make a toast, drink empty, turn over. The stand with its elegant trumpet base then re-accommodates the three cups upside down. With a total weight of approx. 431.5 g and compact dimensions, the set feels solid and substantial in the hand — not a toy, but an object for a genuine ritual. Between shared moments, it functions just as well as a display piece in a cabinet as it does on the table: the three cups are inserted upside down into the stand and appear as an exhibition object with its own story.
Engraving and SilberVerse card
Upon request, we will check if and where an engraving is possible on the cups or the stand. With an engraving, we will include a personally designed SilberVerse card in photo format (15 × 10 cm landscape format), currently free of charge and uniquely designed for this occasion.
Care
Clean cups and stand by hand with lukewarm water and a soft cloth. You should only carefully polish the gilded leaf surfaces and the set gemstones and never put them in the dishwasher, so that niello, gilding, and stone setting retain their luster permanently.
Frequently asked questions
What are Perevyortyshi?
Russian shot glasses without a flat bottom — you can only put them down once you've drunk them empty. The tradition dates back to Peter the Great, "Перевёртыш" means "the inverted one."
Is the set also suitable for display or only for drinking?
Both. When stored, the three cups are inserted upside down into the stand and make just as strong a display piece as they do on the table.
Are Perevyortyshi also available for larger gatherings?
Yes, our set of 6 with golden onion domes is designed for six people.
