Tea glass holder “Barok” made of 925 silver – Russian podstakannik with glass

Anyone holding this holder for the first time will immediately feel the weight of solid 925 sterling silver. The outer wall features a dense Baroque relief of tendrils and volutes, and in the middle of this ornament, an area is deliberately left blank: smooth, oval, set in a small cartouche with a shell finial. This is the engraving field of this tea glass holder from the ArgentA manufactory.

Material and workmanship

The tea glass holder measures H 95 x Ø 72 mm and weighs approx. 105 g of solid 925 sterling silver, not a stainless steel holder with a silver look and no silver-plated surface. The Baroque relief on the outer wall runs around the entire body, from base to rim, without interruption, except for the oval cartouche in the middle, where the surface remains deliberately smooth and empty. The handle is firmly soldered on, allowing the hot glass to be held securely. The accompanying tea glass measures H 100 x Ø 65 mm, holds 200 ml, and features a classic cut that emphasizes the transparency of the glass; in Russian drinking culture, seeing the color of the tea is important. This holder is manufactured by ArgentA, a Russian silver manufactory with many years of experience in producing sterling silverware.

Usage and occasions

The Podstakannik, literally "that which stands under the glass," is inextricably linked with the Russian railway tradition. On the long journeys of the Trans-Siberian Railway, tea was served in a glass, hot, strong, with sugar, and the metal holder protected the hand and held the glass securely. From this necessity, over the decades, a cultural object emerged that migrated from the train compartment to the dining table. As a gift, this holder is suitable for Mother's Day or Father's Day, because it is not only beautifully packaged but also used daily, reminding the recipient of the giver. It is also a suitable choice as a business gift or for retirement, a work anniversary, or milestone birthdays from 50 onwards, as well as for collectors of Russian silver art.

Engraving and SilberVerse card

The oval engraving field in the midst of the Baroque relief was deliberately left blank in the design: large enough for initials, a date, or a short dedication, clearly delimited from the surrounding ornament. Only through engraving does the silver holder become a unique item. Simply state your engraving request in the order field, and we will take care of the rest. Upon request, we can also include a personalized SilberVerse card in photo format 15 x 10 cm landscape, individually designed and suitable for the occasion. It is free of charge.

Care

925 sterling silver is easy to care for: hand washing with mild dish soap and warm water is sufficient for daily cleaning; the dishwasher is taboo. A soft silver polishing cloth is enough for shine. Rinse the tea glass normally by hand. Store the holder dry, preferably in the accompanying gift box.
