Material and workmanship

1,300 grams of pure 925 sterling silver come to the table with this set, distributed over eleven pieces that were conceived as a whole — not as an assortment that appears to have been put together retrospectively. The niello technique connects all the pieces: In each part, the engraved ornaments are set in molten niello, deeply and permanently connected with the silver, not applied or lacquered. This is the quality signature of SevChern from Veliky Ustyug, a manufactory that has mastered this technique since 1683. On each of the eleven pieces sits the same motif: the Russian state emblem with a double-headed eagle, tsar's crowns, scepter, and orb, embedded in a round, gilded medallion, surrounded by dense acanthus tendrils in niello. The triad of gold for the medallion backgrounds and handles, niello black for tendrils and engraving lines, and polished silver for bridges and bases runs consistently across all parts — design work that has been developed over decades in Veliky Ustyug.

Usage and occasions

This set configuration is designed for two people: teapot, sugar bowl, two cups with saucers, two teaspoons, a sugar spoon, a lemon fork, and a serving tray — a complete, functional tea service from pouring to serving sugar and lemon. A milk jug is not included; the matching piece from the Souverän collection is available separately and can be seamlessly added, with the same motif, the same gilding, and the same weight ratio. Larger configurations for four or more people can also be arranged upon request. Care

All silver pieces are polished with a soft cloth; a dishwasher or silver dip is not suitable for this set. Niello is robust in care — the contrasts between black and gold even deepen with regular polishing. Wipe the tray dry after use. Between occasions, it is best to store the set in the supplied gift box or in soft silver cloths.
