Special properties of products
Description
A cake server cleanly lifts slices of cake and tarts from the tray and serves them stylishly on the plate. The "Snowdrop" cake server made of 925 sterling silver features a floral niello ornament on the lower third of the handle and comes from the SevChern manufactory in Veliky Ustyug.
At a glance
- Material: 925 sterling silver
- Dimensions: approx. L213 × W53 mm
- Weight: approx. 63 g
- Shape: curved, leaf-shaped serving surface with a slender handle
- Decoration: floral-geometric niello ornament on the lower third of the handle
- Collection: Snowdrop
- Scope of delivery: 1 cake server + gift box
Material and workmanship
The serving surface is harmoniously curved, follows a soft line reminiscent of a flower petal, and allows for precise lifting of cake and tart slices. The handle tapers gently towards the tip; in the lower third sits a floral, partly geometrically framed niello ornament, melted dark into the polished silver. The rest of the handle remains smooth and simple, so that the ornament acts as a clear accent rather than a continuous pattern. This niello inlay is firmly bonded to the silver and becomes more contrast-rich with every gentle polish.
Use and occasions
At approx. 213 mm in length and 53 mm in width, this cake server is suitable for standard cake and tart slices as well as quiche. As a gift, it suits anniversaries, weddings, or hosts who appreciate elegant, but not overly ornate, silver tableware. Combined with other silver cutlery or serving dishes in the same style, it can be expanded into a small collection of table culture.
Engraving and SilberVerse card
An additional engraving is possible after review — please contact us before ordering to see which surface next to the niello ornament is suitable for it. We also include a SilberVerse card: a digitally designed 15 × 10 cm landscape-format photo, personally inscribed, free of charge.
Care
After use, clean with warm water and polish dry immediately. No dishwasher, no scouring powder. Gently dab the niello ornament; do not rub. If the polished silver tarnishes, polish gently with a soft silver polishing cloth.
Frequently asked questions
Why does only part of the handle feature the niello ornament?
With "Snowdrop," the ornament is deliberately placed only in the lower third of the handle, while the remaining surface remains smooth. This gives the piece a calmer, less dense character than fully decorated models.
Is this genuine hand-engraved niello?
Yes. The ornament is crafted using the traditional niello technique: engraved, filled with niello compound, melted, and polished — a centuries-old technique from Veliky Ustyug.
Can I find other cutlery or serving pieces in the same design?
Upon request, we are happy to see which matching pieces are available from the SevChern manufactory — just get in touch with us.
