Material and workmanship

The Astra Gold butter dish consists of two parts: a fully gilded base and a matted silver lid, its dome adorned with an intricate niello floral ornament — leaves and blossoms in deep black niello inlay, hand-engraved. The base is highly polished and gilded both inside and out, which protects the silver from discoloration and keeps the butter dish looking flawless for years. The conical handle on the lid is made of matted silver and allows for elegant lifting. With Ø 137 mm and approx. 400 g weight, the Astra Gold offers more presentation surface and more volume than other models in our Astra line. We curate this silversmith's art from Russian manufacture for our silver cosmos.

Care

925 sterling silver and gilding are not dishwasher safe — hand washing with mild detergent and a soft cloth is sufficient. Gilding and niello should never be treated with abrasive agents. If the matted silver tarnishes, a soft silver polishing cloth will help; the niello engraving itself will not change and will deepen its contrasts with each polish.
