The Astra Gold dessert plate consists of three harmoniously connected areas: a frosted, brushed center of 925 sterling silver, a wide gilded ring as a transition, and an outer niello floral band with floral patterns in deep black filling. The plate is finished with a gilded outer rim. This tripartite division distinguishes the Astra Gold line from the Astra Classic version, which features large niello floral clusters – here, the center remains intentionally clear, while the embellishment is concentrated on the rim.

Material and Workmanship

The plate is manufactured by SevChern in Veliky Ustyug, the birthplace of Veliky Ustyug niello art. The floral band on the rim is created by deep engraving, into which a dark sulfur alloy is melted – a chemical-physical bond with the silver, not a lacquer or print. The frosted center remains intentionally unadorned: it is not meant to compete with the food served, but rather to offer a calm stage for it.

Use and Occasions

With a diameter of 150 mm, the plate is versatile: as a dessert plate for cakes, panna cotta, or mousse, as a fruit plate, as a bread plate at breakfast, as an appetizer plate for small bites, or as a pastry plate for cookies and petits fours. It matches other Astra pieces such as teacups, drinking glasses, and butter dishes and can easily be expanded into a set of several plates – for example, as an addition to an existing Astra tea set.

Care

We recommend hand washing with warm water and mild dish soap, then immediately drying and polishing with a soft cloth. The high-gloss gilding and the niello band are sensitive to aggressive cleaners and dishwashers. The frosted center can be refreshed with a silver polishing cloth if necessary.
