Material and Workmanship

Both bowls are made of solid 925 sterling silver. The ice bowl features three symmetrically arranged niello floral groups with gilded accent flowers on its matted exterior, while the smaller caviar bowl has a continuous niello floral band with fully gilded blossoms – the same signature found on the carafe, glasses, and tray of the Astra Classic line. Niello is a dark silver alloy that is melted by hand into engraved depressions and then polished flush: not a print, but a permanent component of the metal that gains contrast when polished instead of fading. The inner surfaces and rims of both bowls are highly polished and gilded – taste-neutral and ideal for delicate delicacies. Both pieces bear the original SevChern hallmark as proof of origin.

The 2-bowl system is ingeniously simple: the larger ice bowl is filled with crushed ice, and the smaller caviar bowl sits inside it, keeping the contents cool throughout the serving time. Hand washing with warm water and mild dish soap best preserves the gilding and niello inlays. After use, rinse both bowls and dry with a soft cloth – no dishwasher, no aggressive cleaning agents.
