Material and workmanship

This beaker is part of the Nielloa Oasis collection and displays a lighter, more florid side of niello hand engraving than the dense tendril and band patterns of other Nielloa pieces. Large, openly composed flower heads grow from the silver in the lower part, with leaves and curved stems in an irregular, natural-looking arrangement. In the upper part, fine spiral tendrils and circles accompany the main motif like a quiet echo. Niello is not a paint or a lacquer, but a dark silver alloy that is melted by hand into the engraved lines and chemically-physically bonds with the silver. The golden base rim provides a warm accent against the cool, highly polished 925 sterling silver.
