Material and Workmanship

The entire decorative energy of this tray is concentrated in the handles. Two oval handle rings are located on the left and right, each attached to the surface with small rivets, and both are completely covered with niello flowers—stylized flowers with foliage, tightly placed next to each other, with no silver left bare in between. The tray surface itself remains understated: matte silver brushed, with several concentric grooved lines that run from the outside in, guiding the eye without filling the surface with ornament. At the center is a small oval medallion with a fine decorative stitch frame—designed as an engraving field, currently featuring a delicate tendril pattern. Niello is a silver-sulfur alloy that is melted into engraved depressions and then polished flush—not applied, but chemically and physically bonded to the silver, durable and non-removable. On the handles of this tray, the ornament is particularly densely compressed: anyone holding the piece by the handles will feel the engraved depressions under their fingers.

With a diameter of 244 mm, this tray is larger than the 202 mm models in the series—enough space for a carafe with two glasses, a small tea set, or several aperitif glasses as an ensemble. The two handles make it safe to carry even when full. The niello handles are sensitive to abrasives—only light dabbing instead of circular motions. The matte silver surface can tolerate a normal silver polishing cloth for tarnished spots.
