Description
The bottle is not simply put down, but inserted – and then carried and poured by the handle, without touching it again. This is the difference between a coaster and a bottle holder: one protects the table, the other takes over the serving.
At a Glance
- Bottle holder made of 925 sterling silver with carrying handle
- Height approx. 29 cm, diameter approx. 13 cm – silver weight approx. 550 g
- Basket of chased acanthus leaves, openwork
- Curved handle that extends over the bottle shoulder
- Wide base plate with leaf decor
- Zaramella Argenti, Padua – Manufactory since 1948
How it is used
The bottle stands on the base plate, the leaf basket holds it at three points, the handle extends upwards over the shoulder. When pouring, you tilt the entire holder – the bottle remains inside.
There's a reason for this, which you only notice when pouring: a bottle served by hand shows everyone at the table the host's handwriting. A bottle in a silver basket shows the bottle. With a wine you've chosen, that makes a difference.
The Acanthus
The jagged leaf, rolled at the tips, has adorned column capitals since Greek antiquity. Here it forms the basket: the leaves rise from the base plate, wrap around the bottle and flow into the handle. What looks like decor is the supporting construction.
Material
Solid silver is a prerequisite here, not an ornament: a basket made of silver-plated sheet metal would warp under the weight of a full bottle – roughly one and a half kilograms hang from it when carried. With an empty weight of approx. 550 g, the holder also stands securely, even when the bottle is almost empty. The Italian hallmark of the manufactory identifies the material.
What it fits
For bottles of typical Bordeaux and Burgundy shape. It is the most representative piece among the bottle accessories of the line – intended for evenings when the wine itself is a topic of conversation.
If you prefer something smaller and flatter, you'll find the pierced coaster or the smooth coaster; both remain below the bottle shoulder.
What goes with it
For chilled bottles, the manufactory offers the Inglese champagne cooler – it holds where this holder carries. For opening, the hammered bottle opener, which shows the same craftsmanship in a small piece, is suitable.
One step smaller and designed for the table rather than for carrying is the pierced coaster with a related tendril pattern. If the wine is to be decanted instead of remaining in the bottle, the carafes and jugs offer suitable pieces.
As a Gift
A piece of this size is given for occasions where something is meant to last: for a wedding, a milestone birthday, a company anniversary. It is not consumed — and because it is used on evenings to remember, it connects with them.
The wide base plate accommodates an inscription. We coordinate the size and placement in advance; upon request, we include a SilverVerse card, 15 × 10 cm, currently free of charge.
Care
By hand with warm water, mild detergent and a soft cloth, then dry thoroughly. No dishwasher. The chased leaves can be reached with a soft brush; in the depressions, the darker depth may remain, it gives the acanthus its plasticity. Wine running down the basket should be removed quickly – it is acidic and attacks silver over time. More in the guide on the care of silver cutlery and silverware.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is a bottle included?
No. The image shows a bottle so that size and use are recognizable – only the holder is supplied.
Does every wine bottle fit?
Yes, bottles of typical Bordeaux and Burgundy shape. Very wide sparkling wine bottles do not fit through the leaf basket.
Can you pour from it without removing the bottle?
Yes, that's what the handle is for. You tilt the entire holder; the bottle remains in the basket.
Does it securely hold a full bottle?
Yes. The handle is made of solid silver and soldered to the basket, not inserted.
Is it delivered in gift packaging?
Yes, in high-quality packaging from the manufacturer.
