Description

Of all the bottle coasters from this manufacturer, this one is the tallest—it encloses the bottle not only at the bottom but also covers a good portion of its height. And because the wall is almost completely openwork, you can still see the bottle: through a pattern that resembles bobbin lace more than metal.

At a Glance

  • Bottle coaster made of 925 sterling silver
  • Height approx. 11 cm, diameter approx. 9 cm — silver weight approx. 200 g
  • Wall worked openwork over the full height, very fine tendril pattern
  • Wavy, jagged top edge without a continuous rim
  • Zaramella Argenti, Padua — manufacturer since 1948

What the Height Changes

A flat coaster protects the table. This one does more: It also holds the bottle securely sideways—with eleven centimeters of wall height, it stands firmly, even if someone bumps the table. For an opened bottle that remains on the table all evening, this is the practical difference.

Visually, it looks less like a coaster and more like a container. The bottle is nestled inside it, rather than standing on top of it.

The Pattern

The upper rim does not form a straight edge but follows the ornament—it undulates where the tendrils extend. This is more elaborate than a smooth finish and the reason why the piece, when viewed from above, looks more like a wreath than a ring.

The density of the pattern has a practical side effect: condensation from a chilled bottle drains down the inside instead of collecting.

Material

The finer an openwork pattern, the less material the wall carries—at 200 grams at this height, every bridge counts. Precisely for this reason, it can only be solid: A plating on a base metal would chip off at the edges when sawing out the many small openings, and the remaining bridges would be too weak. The Italian hallmark indicates the material.

What It Fits

For wine and sparkling wine bottles of standard design. With an inner diameter of nine centimeters, slender bottles fit best; very wide sparkling wine bottles may touch the sides.

Flatter and with a coarser tendril pattern is the openwork coaster with approx. 11 cm diameter; completely without a pattern is the smooth coaster.

What Goes With It

The same openwork technique in a different design is shown by the holder with openwork basket and neck ring. For opening, the manufacturer offers the hammered bottle opener; carafes and pitchers are in their own category.

As a Gift

Anyone who likes lace, bobbin work, fine craftsmanship—will recognize this pattern, even if it's made of silver instead of thread. This makes it a gift for someone who appreciates precision, not size.

An engraving is possible on the base ring; we advise beforehand on placement and size. On request, we can include a SilverVerse card, 15 × 10 cm, currently free of charge.

Care

Wash by hand with warm water, mild detergent, and a soft cloth, then dry thoroughly. Do not put in the dishwasher. With such a delicate pattern, work with a soft brush and do not pull on the bridges; the darker depth in the indentations can remain—it is what makes the pattern visible. More in the guide on the care of silver cutlery and silver dinnerware.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does a champagne bottle fit inside?

Slender ones do. Wide sparkling wine bottles may touch the base ring—with an inner diameter of nine centimeters, it's worth measuring beforehand.

Are the fine bridges delicate?

Not in use—they are made of solid silver and support each other. When cleaning, just don't pull on them.

Solid or silver-plated?

Solid 925 sterling silver with an Italian hallmark. We do not carry silver-plated goods.

Is the pattern also available in a shallower version?

Yes—as a flat coaster with approx. 11 cm diameter and a coarser tendril pattern.

Is it delivered in gift packaging?

Yes, in high-quality manufacturer packaging.
