Bottle coaster 925 silver square — 20 × 20 cm

The edges are not straight, but slightly curved; two opposite corners lift, the other two dip. This transforms a square into a surface with direction. It is the most modern piece the manufacturer produces for bottles — and the only one that has no historical precedent.

Why the corners lift

A flat plate of thin silver would bend under weight. The curvature prevents this: A curved surface is stiffer than a flat one — the same principle that supports a curved sheet metal in car body construction. What looks like a design decision here is primarily a static one.

The result, a silhouette reminiscent of a sail, is a bonus. The piece appears light, although at 370 grams, it is one of the heavier ones.

What the size allows

Twenty by twenty centimeters is more than a bottle needs. That's precisely the point: Next to the bottle, there's space for two glasses or for corks and a corkscrew. The piece is designed as a coaster and also functions as a small tray.

How to see the craftsmanship

For a piece without ornament, there is only one check point: the edge. It runs consistently strong along the entire contour, even where the surface lifts — and that is precisely the point where a machine would thin the material when curving a sheet. If you want to know whether a smooth silver piece is well-made, run your finger along the edge.

Material

A curved surface without any ornament forgives nothing. Any irregularity in the silver, any dent in the curve would be immediately visible in the reflection — and in a curved reflection, even distorted and thus more noticeable than on a flat one. Therefore, it only works with flawless solid silver; a plating would also tear at the curve when being shaped. The Italian hallmark indicates the material.

What it suits

For wine, sparkling wine, and water bottles, for carafes, and as a base for a glass with a side dish. It is the only one of our coasters that fits a modern table setting without appearing out of place.

Smaller and with a chased rim is the square coaster 14 × 14 cm. If you are looking for the classic round shape, you will find it in the smooth coaster.

As a gift

Silver is considered old-fashioned by many — this piece is the counter-argument. It fits into a home where nothing else is chased, and is therefore often the first silver piece someone receives.

Care

Hand wash with warm water, mild dish soap and a soft cloth, then dry thoroughly. No dishwasher. For a large mirrored surface, wipe in straight lines and do not circular — on a curved surface, circular marks are even more noticeable than on a flat one. Yes. The depression in the middle is recessed flat; the curvature only affects the corners.

Can it be used as a tray?

Yes, for short distances. It has no raised edges and no handles — for a full transport through the room, a silver tray is the right choice.
