Wine stays open, liqueur doesn't. That's the whole difference between a decanter and this bottle — and it explains every one of its features: the stopper, the narrow neck, the upright height. It's built to be closed, and what's closed can also stay put.

Why it's so tall

36 centimeters is a lot for a vessel of this capacity. The reason is the baluster shape: The contents sit at the bottom, the height comes from the neck. This has a practical purpose — when pouring, the long neck determines the direction of the stream, and a liqueur can be poured into a small glass without spilling.

The second reason is its presence. On a side table next to the glasses, it stands upright like a column, while a wide decanter would lie flat.

The stopper

A stopper that needs to be tight requires two parts that fit together precisely — the neck and stopper are manufactured together and ground to fit each other. Therefore, they are not interchangeable: The stopper of a second bottle of the same model would not fit as well.

The chiseled finial on top is more than just decoration. It gives the hand a grip that a smooth ball would not — especially when the fingers are damp from the glass.

Material

The base of the neck is the thinnest part of the entire piece, and there is a chiseled band there. Precisely this combination — thin material and chased ornament — rules out an overlay: It would tear at the hallmark, where the metal bears the least weight. Solid silver holds it, and the neck remains slender nonetheless. The Italian hallmark indicates the material.

What it's suitable for

For liqueurs, herbal distillates, port wine, and anything drunk in small glasses after a meal. It is not intended for wine — it lacks the wide opening that allows a red wine to breathe.

As a gift

A closed silver bottle is a gift that can be filled — and many do exactly that: It arrives filled, with a distillate appropriate for the occasion. For a housewarming or a milestone anniversary, this is a gesture that goes beyond the item itself.

Care

By hand with warm water, mild dish soap, and a soft cloth, then dry thoroughly. No dishwasher. Before closing, the inside must be completely dry — residual moisture in a closed silver vessel will cause it to tarnish from the inside, and a polishing cloth cannot reach there. How much does it hold?

The manufacturer does not specify a filling volume. With this design, the contents sit in the bulbous lower part; it is sufficient for a typical liqueur bottle. We will inquire with the manufacturer upon request.

Is the stopper tight?

It is ground to fit and holds the contents. It is not intended for transporting a filled bottle — it is a stopper, not a seal.

Can you pour wine into it?

Possible, but not sensible. The narrow neck allows hardly any air to reach the wine; for decanting, an open carafe is needed.

Solid or silver-plated?

Solid 925 sterling silver with Italian hallmark. We do not carry silver-plated goods.

Does it come in gift packaging?
