Perevertyshi Gold Oak 925 Silver Niello — 3-piece set with stand

Three tumblers without a base, held in a stand of polished silver — not a design coincidence, but a Perevörtischi tradition dating back to the court of Peter the Great. Perevyortysh means "the inverted one": you drink it empty, turn the tumbler over, and place it on its opening. If nothing spills out, you have drunk honestly — a gesture that proves sincerity among friends, without saying a word.

Material and Craftsmanship

All three tumblers and the stand feature the same ornamentation: oak leaves and acorns, executed in hand-engraved niello on polished 925 silver, with the leaf surfaces gilded in fine gold. In Slavic tradition, the oak was considered the sacred tree of the thunder god Perun — a symbol of strength, courage, endurance, and loyalty, also referred to in Russia as the "Tsar Oak." On a Perevörtischi tumbler, the oak is not a random ornament, but rather tells of a strength that does not hide itself. Green gemstones, presumably chrysoprase, sit at the conical tips of the tumblers — a color accent that adds an additional facet to the black-silver-gold of the niello. The set comes from the SevChern manufactory in Veliky Ustyug, one of the three great centers of niello in Russia alongside Tula and Kubachi in the Caucasus, with a 340-year-old tradition. The gemstones are set individually; slight differences between the three tumblers are not a flaw, but the individual signature of the engraving.

Usage and Occasions

Three is a special number at a Russian table — three friends, three brothers, a father with two sons, three business partners who have built something together. This set is intended for a group small enough to be honest: pour, give a toast, drink empty, turn over. The stand with its elegant trumpet base then holds the three tumblers upside down again. With a total weight of approx. 431.5 g and compact dimensions, the set feels solid and substantial in the hand — not a toy, but an object for a genuine ritual. Between shared moments, it stands as well in a display cabinet as it functions on the dining table: the three tumblers sit upside down in the stand, appearing like an exhibition piece with its own history.

Engraving and SilberVerse Card

Engraving is possible upon review: Simply add the engraving service flat rate to your cart along with the set; we will then determine if and where there is space on the tumblers or the stand and coordinate the wording with you. If it is not possible, we will refund the flat rate. Upon request with your order, we will include a personalized SilberVerse card in photo format (15 × 10 cm landscape), designed free of charge and specifically for this occasion.

Care

Clean the tumblers and stand by hand with lukewarm water and a soft cloth. You should only polish the gilded leaf surfaces and the set gemstones carefully; never put them in the dishwasher, so that the niello, gilding, and stone settings retain their shine permanently.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are Perevörtischi?

Russian schnapps tumblers without a flat bottom — you can only set them down once you have drunk them empty. The tradition dates back to Peter the Great; "Perevyortysh" means "the inverted one."

Is the set suitable for a display cabinet or only for drinking?

Both. When stored, the three tumblers sit upside down in the stand and look just as striking as a display piece as they do on the dining table.

Are the Perevörtischi also available for larger groups?

Yes, our 6-piece set with golden onion domes is intended for six people.
