Description
What is on the handle of this spoon? This baptismal spoon made of 925 silver features the Holy Guardian Angel in relief, blackened and with a certificate of consecration. It is intended for Orthodox baptisms.
Orthodox Gifts
What else belongs on the baptismal table?
Icon spoons, Guardian Angel sets and other pieces for Orthodox baptisms.
To Orthodox GiftsHoly Guardian Angel in relief: wings, halo, cross staff
At the end of the handle stands the angel with wings and a halo. In his hand he holds a cross staff. Below it sits a braided knot that separates the handle from the stem.
The handle is blackened, while the spoon bowl remains bright. The relief and lettering are dark, while the raised parts remain light. This makes the figure stand out in three dimensions.
In the Christian faith, the Guardian Angel is revered. The spoon shows him as a winged figure with a halo.
Св. Ангелъ Хранитель: This inscription is on the stem
An inscription in Church Slavonic runs along the stem: “Св. Ангелъ Хранитель”. Translated, this means “Holy Guardian Angel”.
Your godchild will want to decipher the letters one day. Then you can reveal the wording.
Consecrated in Kolchugino: The certificate is included
The spoon belongs to the manufacturer's Orthodox collection. It is consecrated in the Pokrov Church in Kolchugino (Alexandrov Diocese, Moscow Patriarchate). A certificate of consecration is included.
More pieces for this occasion can be found in the Orthodox Gifts. It is also worth taking a look at the religious gifts.
Without engraving, with a card: How the spoon becomes personal
The relief and inscription fill the stem. Engraving is therefore not possible on this spoon.
It can still be made personal: Upon request, we include a SilberVerse card, measuring 15 × 10 cm.
Matching the Guardian Angel: Sets and a table icon
Anyone who wants to give more than one spoon can choose a Guardian Angel set: gold-plated, blackened, in blue or in red.
The Guardian Angel table icon also matches the motif.

What is needed for an Orthodox baptism?
This is determined by the parish. It is best to ask the priest who is officiating the baptism. As for the gift: a consecrated spoon is appropriate for the occasion, and you can give the family the certificate. You can find more ideas in the Orthodox Gifts.
How do I care for the blackened spoon?
The blackening is intentional and will last in everyday use. You can carefully re-polish the raised areas with a silver polishing cloth. The recesses will remain dark.
Where does the custom of giving spoons for baptisms come from?
The silver spoon is one of the well-known baptismal gifts. What lies behind it is explained in the guide to the meaning of the baptismal spoon.
