Blackened relief: Dark lines, bright surfaces

At the end of the handle sits the round medallion with a small crown. The angel stands inside it, surrounded by an inscription. The recesses are dark, while the angel and the rim shine silver.

The vine ornament below therefore looks sculptural, with a dark edge on every curl. The blackening emphasises the relief, is not paint and does not come off in everyday use. The bowl stays smooth and bright. The spoon weighs approx. 13 g and measures approx. 113 × 25 × 10 mm.

Engraving under the medallion, 10 to 12 characters

Under the medallion, on the back of the handle, is the area for the name. It holds 10 to 12 characters. The medallion and cross are not engraved.

Two pieces, one certificate from Kolchugino

Spoon and cross were consecrated in Kolchugino by the local Orthodox parish. The parish’s certificate is part of the delivery. The consecration is a custom of the church and not a promise of protection.

A request to the angel at the shared meal

The back shows the Church Slavonic sentence “Ангелъ за трапезой незримо предстой”. In English it reads: “Angel, be invisibly present at the meal.”

The line asks the angel to be invisibly present during the shared meal. It remains a custom that you pass on to the child.

Cross with cord, blue or pink on request

The spoon comes with a small Orthodox cross with a corpus and trefoil-shaped ends. It is approx. 20 mm in size and weighs approx. 1 g. Together with the spoon, that makes approx. 14 g of silver.

The cord is white, and on request it is available in blue or pink. Note your choice in the “order note at checkout”. In the pictures, the cross is shown without the cord.

How do I care for blackened silver?
Rinse the spoon by hand in lukewarm water, never in the dishwasher, and dry it on a soft cloth. Use a silver polishing cloth only on the raised, bright areas and leave out the recesses.

Does the blackening come from a paint?
No. The blackening is not a coloured lacquer and not paint. It sits on the surface in the recesses and does not come off in everyday use.

Is the cross meant to be worn?
Yes, there is an eyelet at the top, and the cord is included. Until the child is old enough to wear it, the cross can stay in the case.
