Material and workmanship

The sieve basket is made of 925 sterling silver and deliberately understated: a smooth, matte brushed surface without ornamentation, which allows the eye to rest. The decoration concentrates on the two curved ends of the rim — there is a floral niello pattern, which is embedded in the engraved silver using classic blackening techniques. The contours are clear, the floral shapes are symmetrically arranged, so that both rim sides appear like a mirrored pair. The contrast between the bright, matte silver and the deep black niello is the actual design principle of this piece. The sieve base is finely perforated and designed for loose tea.
