Material and Workmanship

The medallion on this goblet is not a decorative element—it is a frame. A small oval window of polished silver into which a photo can be inserted: a passport photo, a miniature wedding photo, a child's photo, a picture of a person who is no longer with us. The medallion sits on the front of the bowl, framed by dense niello ornamentation that flows past on the left and right like an opening curtain. During the firing process, the niello technique chemically and physically bonds with the silver base and becomes more contrasting, not weaker, over the years. The goblet is manufactured by SevChern in Veliky Ustyug, Northern Russia, in approximately 15 steps.

When you lift this goblet, a face looks back at you. This is different from an engraved goblet—an engraving names a name, a photo shows a person. When the goblet is on the table, every guest sees who is looking out from it.

Use and Occasions

For a wedding, a photo of the bridal couple in the goblet becomes a lasting image: After the celebration, the goblet stands on the shelf, and for a silver wedding anniversary, it is raised again. Care

Clean with warm water and dry with a soft cloth; do not use a silver dip due to the niello inlays. Gently open and close the medallion door to protect the hinge. Stored in the gift box, the shine will be preserved.

Can the goblet still be used for drinking?
