Material and craftsmanship

The floral ornament band that circles the lid is hand-engraved, and the dark niello paste is then fused into the recesses — one of the oldest silversmithing techniques, where the color is not applied, but permanently becomes part of the metal. Think of it like ink in silver: the black line does not sit on top, but is anchored in the silver itself and becomes more high-contrast with every polish. Surrounding this dark band is the gold-plated surface of the lid, which gives the set its warm, festive appearance. The butter knife features a twisted, partially gold-plated handle that adopts the same design language as the dish and holds the ensemble together.
