Material and Workmanship

The bowl is made of solid 925 sterling silver and rests on its own pedestal, which is gilded at the rim. The wide outer decorative ring is hand-engraved and features a floral niello ornament: The dark silver alloy is melted into the engraved lines and, after cooling, polished flush with the silver surface, creating a permanent, high-contrast contour effect. The interior is fully gilded – this protects delicate foods such as caviar from any change in taste caused by the metal and at the same time makes them appear particularly elegant. Weighing approximately 300 grams, the piece has a noticeable material value, which is immediately apparent when lifted.
