Material and Workmanship

The "Tradition" caviar bowl consists of two nested bowls made of 925 sterling silver. The inner bowl is completely gilded – gold does not alter the taste of delicate foods such as caviar and retains its shine unchanged for years. The outer bowl holds ice and keeps the contents of the inner bowl cool without melted water reaching the caviar. The outer wall of the bowl features intricate niello ornamentation: flowers, tendrils, and leaves, hand-engraved and filled with black niello alloy. Niello is not applied color, but a metal alloy of silver, copper, lead, and sulfur, which is burned into the engraved depressions at high temperatures and then polished. The result is a chemical bond with the base silver – durable, insoluble, food-safe. The base remains in polished silver and provides a calm finish to the bowl. The accompanying caviar cutlery with a twisted handle complements the set and is designed for the delicate handling of caviar, which does not tolerate metal cutlery with reactive surfaces.

Care

Clean the caviar bowl exclusively by hand – warm water, mild detergent, no dishwasher, and no silver dip. Both would attack the gilding and the niello inlay. Dry thoroughly after use to prevent water spots from forming on the polished surface. For the outer silver surface, a soft silver polishing cloth is suitable, which gently refreshes the surface without touching the niello engraving.
