Material and Workmanship

On both glasses, the same image is at the center: two interlocking rings, framed by gold volutes and floral niello tendrils. The rings are hand-engraved into the silver, the depressions then filled with niello – a black sulfur-silver alloy that is melted in at high heat and then forms a permanent, chemical-physical bond with the silver. Not a lacquer, not a coating, but part of the metal itself. Between the niello surfaces, the fine gold plating sets warm accents that give the ornament depth and luster. Inside, both bowls are fully gilded, so that the champagne shimmers in a warm golden tone, while on the outside, the polished silver gives the glass its weight and coolness – noticeably different from a crystal glass, which feels light and interchangeable after the first lift. Care

Hand wash only with lukewarm water and a soft cloth, no dish soap with aggressive additives. Never put in the dishwasher – the heat and detergents will damage the gilding. Niello remains dark on its own and requires no special care other than protection from harsh cleaners.
