Material and Workmanship

The intertwined rings on this goblet are executed in niello hand-engraving: hand-engraved into the silver and then filled with the black niello alloy, which is melted in at high heat. The result is a contrast that doesn't wear off — deep black on polished silver, framed by floral tendrils. The gilding on the upper rim and the inside of the goblet adds a third tone: gold, silver, black united in one piece. The glass is created in the SevChern manufactory in Veliky Ustyug, where niello silversmithing has been cultivated for generations — from hand-engraving and niello melting to the final polishing, each piece goes through several steps before leaving the workshop.

Care Instructions

Hand wash only with warm water and a soft cloth; no dishwasher. The hot detergent solution of a dishwasher attacks the gilding and should therefore be avoided. Do not scour the interior gilding, but gently polish it. Niello remains dark on its own and requires no special care.
