Material and Workmanship
The grapes on the bowl of this goblet are not stylized graphics, but realistically designed: they hang from vines, the leaves show fine veins, the shoots wind around the motif. Each line is hand-engraved into the silver, the black niello alloy then hand-melted in the flame, forming a strong bond with the silver. The golden areas behind the grapes give the motif warmth and depth, as if light were falling through grape leaves. The grape motif is part of the classic ornamental palette of Russian silversmithing — there, the grape has long stood for abundance and pleasure, symbols that find their natural place on a wine goblet. The inside of the goblet is fully gilded with fine gold, as are the rim and foot; this protects the silver from the acid in the wine and does not impart any off-flavor.
Use and Occasions
With approx. 210 ml, this goblet offers enough volume for swirling and enough space for the aromas of a generous red wine or an aromatic white wine. At a wine tasting, given as a gift along with a good bottle, the goblet remains while the wine is drunk — a self-explanatory gift idea. For vintners and all those connected with viticulture, a goblet with a grape motif in silver is a piece that finds its place in the wine cellar and is used for tasting. For weddings or anniversaries, the grape as a symbol of abundance and a new phase of life is also fitting. Anyone who not only drinks wine but tastes it will find here a goblet that is taken as seriously as its contents.
Engraving and SilberVerse Card
An engraving is possible upon request — initials, a date, or a short saying can be engraved on the foot or the lower rim of the bowl, provided there is space next to the grape motif. For personalization, upon request, we include a SilberVerse card in landscape format 15 × 10 cm — a digitally individually designed card for the occasion, recipient, and message, each unique and currently free of charge.
Care
Clean by hand, with lukewarm water and a mild detergent, then dry with a soft cloth. Do not use a dishwasher or aggressive cleaners and abrasive agents. A high-quality silver polishing cloth maintains the shine of the polished surfaces permanently. Over time and with regular polishing, the contrasts between silver, gold, and niello black will deepen further.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can you actually drink wine from the goblet?
Yes, that's what it's made for. 925 silver is food-safe, and the internal gilding additionally protects against wine acid. Clean by hand, not in the dishwasher.
What does the grape motif mean?
In Russian ornamentation, the grape symbolizes abundance and pleasure — a symbol that looks particularly fitting on a wine goblet and is part of the classic motif tradition of niello silversmithing.
Is engraving possible?
Upon request — initials, a date, or a saying can be engraved on the foot or the lower rim of the bowl, depending on the available space.
