This cup made of 925 sterling silver turns that moment into something lasting. The ornamental band on the silver body is not printed — it is hand-engraved and burned in with niello. The gilded handle sets a warm accent against the polished silver and the dark ornament. Crafted by the SevChern manufactory in Veliky Ustyug, Northern Russia.

The Triad — three surfaces, one cup

What defines this cup can be described in three tones: the polished silver of the main body, the dark niello ornamental band, the warm gold tone of the handle. Three surfaces, three techniques — in one object that weighs 91 grams and feels in the hand like something that wants to stay.

The niello ornament is a continuous floral band — rosettes of blossoms and tendrils, hand-engraved and filled with dark niello alloy. Niello is not a color, not a lacquer. It is a black alloy, fired in at over 800 degrees Celsius, chemically insoluble with the silver. The ornament does not fade — it deepens with each passing year.

Botanica — modular and expandable

This cup is part of SevChern's Botanica collection. Every piece in the collection bears the same floral ornament, the same gilding, the same manufactory origin: teapot (SW10178, 500 ml), sugar bowl (11640, 270 ml), milk jug (SW10190, 180 ml), saucer (SW10162). SevChern — Niello from Veliky Ustyug

Veliky Ustyug, a city in the Vologda Oblast in Northern Russia, has been known for its niello silver work since 1683. The geographically protected designation of origin makes genuine Ustyug niello a product of origin: It may only be produced there. SevChern, founded in 1933, continues this tradition — each piece bears the manufactory mark, registered annually with the Russian Federal Assay Office.

Care: Hand wash — warm water, mild dish soap; no dishwasher. No silver dip — the niello inlays would be damaged. Protect gilding — only use a soft cloth, no abrasive polishes on the handle. Store in the gift box; protects against tarnishing and keeps surfaces fresh.

What is the difference between niello and a normal engraving?
With an engraving, the pattern is only cut into the surface. In the niello process, a dark metal alloy is additionally melted and burned into the engraving lines — the contrast is permanent because the niello becomes part of the metal.

Is the cup food safe?
Yes. 925 sterling silver is a classic food contact material. The niello inlays are chemically stable after firing. The gilding on the handle does not come into contact with the contents.

Can I assemble the service for more than 2 people?
Yes — the Botanica service can be individually configured on request for any number of people. You can reorder cups, saucers, and spoons separately. Please contact us when placing your order.
