Some pieces need no words. This saucer of 925 sterling silver lies silently — flat, round, with a polished mirror in the center — letting the cup take center stage. Four subtle niello ornaments at the edge maintain balance. No loud decor, no continuous border. Just the form, the silver, and the frame you need for a ritual.

Four Corner Ornaments in Niello — the Frame for the Cup

Evenly spaced at 90° intervals, four individual ornaments adorn the outer rim — each a small rhombus shield with a dotted grid infill, framed laterally by acanthus scrolls, with a delicate floral sphere at the top and continued scrolls at the bottom. The space between the four motifs remains free. This creates not a closed border, but an interplay of decoration and stillness.

The niello — a 3,000-year-old silver technique — is applied in 15 steps at the SevChern manufactory in Veliky Ustyug. It forms a chemical-physical bond with the silver, not a lacquer, not a coating. With each polish, the contrasts deepen. The saucer becomes more beautiful over time.

Niello is not a coating. It forms a chemical-physical bond with the silver and does not peel off. On the contrary — with each polish, the contrasts between the bright silver and the dark niello deepen.
