Orthodox Icon Holy Trinity in 925 Silver — the Deepest Motif in Niello and Gold
The Holy Trinity is the most central yet most complex motif in Christian iconography — three angels at a table, the image of perfect community, passed down through centuries following the example of Andrei Rublev. This icon features this motif in 925 Sterling Silver: niello hand-engraving for the fine ornamental lines, gilding for the surfaces, 240 grams, 161 × 131 mm, mounted on a wooden frame, crafted by SevChern in Veliky Ustyug. A piece that would not achieve the same effect in any other technique.

The Holy Trinity — the Motif and its Meaning
The Trinity image in Orthodox iconography shows three angels at a table — a vision from the Book of Genesis, interpreted by theologians and painters for centuries as a depiction of the divine Trinity. The most famous example is Rublev's Trinity icon from the 15th century, considered the pinnacle of Orthodox iconography. This icon adopts the same visual language — three figures, one table, one chalice, a balance of stillness and meaning.
The niello engraving on the silver gives this motif a physicality unattainable on paper or wood: the ornamental lines reflect light differently, the gold warms the depiction, and the weight of the metal gives the icon a physical presence in the space where it hangs.
Niello from Veliky Ustyug — 340 Years of Silver Tradition
Veliky Ustyug, Northern Russia, has cultivated the niello silver tradition since 1683 — geographically protected like champagne. SevChern hand-engraves the ornaments into the silver: graver, niello firing at over 800 degrees Celsius, polishing, gilding. The manufacturer's mark of the artist is engraved into each piece, registered annually with the Russian Federal Assay Office. A tradition awarded a gold medal at the 1937 Paris World Exhibition.
