The king stands tallest, with an onion-shaped finial and a golden knob. The queen wears an open crown. The knight displays a classic wooden horse head, emerging from the silver ring. The board — noble wood with eight silver applications

The chessboard is not a board in the usual sense — it is the lid of a chest. 570 × 570 millimeters, inlaid with light and dark wooden squares, and adorned at the edges and corners with eight handcrafted silver applications. Four large corner fittings in rocaille style (60.5 × 46 mm) with curved volutes in silver and gold, two diamond-shaped central ornaments with niello ornamentation, and two long gold strips (216 × 7 mm) framing the board like a picture frame frames a painting. Added to this is the central decoration — a diamond motif in silver and gold marking the center of each side of the board.

The combination of dark wenge wood and polished silver gives the board a character that lies between a piece of furniture and an object of art. When closed, it stands on the table like a flat chest — elegant, heavy, and with the promise that more is hidden within than just chess pieces.

The stemmed glasses are gilded on the inside — cognac, whiskey, or a fine liqueur come into contact with the gold interior, not the silver.
