Material and craftsmanship

The "Laune" stands on a compact base, giving it height and stability — the conical shape widens upwards, narrow at the bottom, wide at the top, with a slightly flared rim. Gilding and niello are deliberately used separately: The entire interior is fully gilded, along with a gilded strip at the upper rim and one at the bottom of the foot. The outer wall, however, is frosted, no gold, no high gloss, just muted silk silver. Precisely there sits the niello band with baroque arabesques and acanthus scrolls — curved tendrils, symmetrical leaves, spirals, each line hand-engraved into the silver with a burin and filled with niello alloy. SevChern in Veliky Ustyug has been transferring this European Baroque design language into the niello tradition of the manufacture for decades, which was awarded a gold medal at the 1937 World's Fair in Paris.

Care

Clean the bowl exclusively by hand with lukewarm water and mild dish soap. No dishwasher, no silver dip — both will damage the gilding. Never treat the gilded surfaces with abrasive cleaners. The niello band is fused and durable; normal cleaning will not harm it. The frosted silver exterior can be refreshed with a soft silver polishing cloth without losing the character of the brushed surface. Store the piece in its gift box.
