Material and workmanship

The milk jug is made of 925 sterling silver, with a matte and satin finish. Hand-engraved floral ornaments twine across the body, filled with black niello inlay – a central blossom is additionally gilded in gold, creating a deliberate accent that catches the eye. Niello is an alloy of silver, copper, lead, and sulfur, which is burned into the engraved depressions and polished – a permanent, chemical bond with the silver, not an application or coating. The interior of the jug is completely gold-plated, as are the upper rim, the spout, and the decorative bands. This gilding protects the silver from discoloration by milk, cream, or coffee and remains unchanged for years. The bulbous shape with a wide base ensures stability, while the upward-tapering body facilitates pouring. The handle is ergonomically curved and fits comfortably in the hand without the fingers having to touch the silver body.
