Material and workmanship

Each of the four wheels is made of 925 silver, with openwork spokes forming a filigree pattern. A blue gemstone cabochon is set in the center of each hub. The round, bulbous carriage body features niello hand engraving across its entire surface: floral medallions in the center, dense tendril ornaments all around, plus gilded framed panels and cartouches with a diamond pattern in gold. The domed lid with its crown-shaped finial can be removed, revealing the gilded interior. A small red seat is located at the front of the coach box – the only red color in the entire piece, a contrast to black, silver, gold, and blue.
