Material and Craftsmanship

The floral border that broadly wraps around the body of the bowl is created in several steps: Each line is hand-engraved before the dark niello paste is applied, fired, and polished. Niello is not a paint or varnish, but a black silver alloy that chemically and physically bonds with the silver – a contrast of bright shine and deep black that does not flake off and gains depth with years of polishing.
