Silver bowl, 925 sterling silver, gold-plated, SAKURA 200 ml

Sakura, Japanese for cherry blossom, stands for fleeting beauty – a motif that the SevChern manufactory from Veliky Ustyug has translated into its niello technique. On the silver wall of this serving bowl, a branch with cherry blossoms and a bird stretches out as a fine hand-engraved niello design, while the rim, handles, and base ring are gilded – a cultural transfer that makes both traditions visible.

Material and workmanship

The bowl's wall is polished 925 sterling silver and features a branch with cherry blossoms and a small bird as the central motif – hand-engraved and filled with black niello inlay. Niello is not an applied paint, but a black inlay that is fused into the engraved recesses, ground flush, and polished – like ink in silver. The rim, the two side handles, and the base ring are gilded, forming a warm frame around the silver center. This triad of bright silver, deep niello black, and warm gold is the hallmark of the SAKURA collection.

Use and occasions

157 mm width with handles and 95 mm diameter for the bowl itself result in a size with presence, without dominating the table. With a 200 ml capacity, the bowl is suitable for desserts, cream soups, appetizers, or fine snacks. The two side handles make serving with one hand possible – stable and secure on the way from the kitchen to the table. As a decorative object, the bowl also stands on its own when empty, for example on a sideboard or in a display cabinet. As a wedding gift, the Sakura motif thematically fits new beginnings, as well as anniversaries or silver and golden weddings. Those who collect the entire SAKURA collection – piala, saucer, carafe – can complement it with this bowl for a harmonious ensemble.

Engraving and SilberVerse card

Personal engraving is possible upon review, for example with initials, a date, or a short dedication – since the wall features the niello motif, we recommend engraving on the bottom or on one of the handles. Contact us before ordering with your engraving request. Additionally, we offer the SilberVerse card in photo format (15 × 10 cm landscape) – individually and digitally designed to suit the occasion and the recipient, free of charge.

Care

Hand wash only with lukewarm water and mild dish soap. No dishwasher, no ultrasonic cleaner, no silver dip bath – these methods attack both the gilding and the niello inlay. A soft silver polishing cloth is sufficient for the polished silver surfaces. Store in a dry place, ideally in the included gift box.

Frequently asked questions

Is the entire bowl gilded?

No. The wall remains polished silver, on which the niello motif remains visible. The rim, handles, and base ring are gilded – a deliberate contrast of silver, black, and gold.

What does SAKURA mean and why does the motif fit Russian silver?

Sakura is Japanese for cherry blossom – a globally recognized symbol of beauty and transience. SevChern has translated this motif, supplemented by a bird, into the Russian niello technique.

Can the bowl be engraved?

Yes, upon review. Since the wall features the motif, engraving on the bottom or on a handle is recommended.
