What makes this letter opener special

The handle is divided into three zones:

• Handle end: ornamental silver loops — open perforations that give the piece lightness
• Niello field: a wide field with geometric-floral patterns — blossoms in rhombic fields, framed by linear borders. The dark niello lines are ink in silver — permanently melted in, not applied
• Filigree transition: openwork volutes and tendrils of silver connecting the niello field with the blade — openwork through which you can see

The blade is long, narrow, polished — at its base, it bears the engraved SevChern manufacturer's mark. A subtle detail that connoisseurs immediately recognize.

In this letter opener, niello meets filigree: the openwork in the upper handle requires precise sawing and filing — every volute must be correct, every arch must be supportive. The niello field below requires hand engraving and melting in an open flame. Two different craft disciplines on a single piece — only a few masters can achieve this.

Clean the silver surfaces with a soft polishing cloth. The niello ornaments become more contrasting with each polish. If necessary, remove dust from the filigree cutouts with a soft toothbrush — gently, without pressure.
