Material and Craftsmanship
The handle is divided into three distinct zones: at the upper end, ornamental silver loops form openwork patterns that lend the piece lightness. Below this is a broad niello field featuring geometric-floral patterns—blossoms in diamond-shaped fields, framed by linear borders. The dark niello lines are effectively "ink" in silver, permanently melted and chemically-physically bonded to the metal, not merely applied. A delicate transition of openwork volutes and tendrils finally connects the niello field to the blade—an open design through which you can see. The blade itself is long, narrow, and polished. Crafted in a Russian silver workshop that combines filigree and niello on a single piece.
