The largest single-flame candlestick in the collection—and the only one with acanthus leaves that stand freely away from the shaft. You can feel them under your fingers when you pick it up. Made for tables where height contributes to the effect: long tables, high rooms, festive occasions.

Relief instead of flat surface

The difference from the smaller candlesticks in the line is not just a matter of size. Here, the ornament stands out from the body: at the transition from the shaft to the foot, acanthus leaves detach from the wall and protrude freely into space.

This requires a different working method. Chasing alone is not enough—the leaves are crafted separately and attached, or hammered out from a thicker blank and then refined. Both processes are more labor-intensive than hammering a pattern into a closed surface, which explains the price difference.

The effect is most evident by candlelight: protruding leaves cast real shadows on the shaft behind them. The piece gains a depth that a flat relief cannot create.

The height

At approx. 47 cm, it is quite tall for a table candlestick. On a set table, the flame stands well above the eye level of those seated—the light falls from above, like a small chandelier, and no one looks directly into the flame.

On a sideboard or console, it unfolds its effect as a solitaire. Together with the approx. 40 cm high model in the collection, it creates a staggering of two heights, as is customary on long tables: the tall ones in the middle, the lower ones at the ends.

Material and origin

Two things result from the solid silver that are immediately visible on a candlestick: chasing only succeeds in solid silver, as silver plating would tear under the punch. And silver reflects over 95 percent of visible light—more than any other utility metal. Before electrification, this was the very reason why candlesticks were made of silver.

Zaramella Argenti has been manufacturing in Padua since 1948. The Signature line is the house’s richly chased signature style—this candlestick is its most pronounced single-flame representative.

Single or as a pair

As a pair at the ends of a long table or flanking on a sideboard. Alone as a solitaire in a niche or next to a painting—at this size, it does not need a counterpart to make an impact.

Engraving

The shaft is crafted throughout. The underside of the base remains as the engraving surface—the usual place for initials or a date on a pair. Engraving subject to verification; we will advise you on this. Upon request, we include a SilberVerse card (15 × 10 cm), free of charge.

Occasions

For a golden wedding anniversary, a major jubilee, or as an honorary gift. A piece with sculptural, protruding ornament is repoussé work in the strict sense—it is suitable where the effort itself is the message. As a pair, presented by several donors.

Care

By hand with warm water, mild detergent, and a soft cloth; dry thoroughly afterward. No dishwasher. Handle the protruding leaves with care: they are sturdy but not designed for pulling—hold the candlestick by the shaft, not by the ornament. Wax residue is best removed after briefly cooling; never use a knife. A soft brush is suitable for the indentations. Tarnish is normal and reversible with a silver cloth; the darker depth between the leaves may remain—it gives the relief its sculptural quality. Classic taper candles with a 22 mm diameter. At this height, long candles look particularly harmonious.

Is it stable?

Yes. The widely sweeping base and the dead weight of approx. 1.15 kg keep it stable.

Are the protruding leaves delicate?

They are firmly connected to the body and pose no problem during normal use. When carrying or cleaning, hold the candlestick by the shaft, not by the ornament.

Solid or silver-plated?

Solid 925 sterling silver with a material weight of approx. 1.15 kg of material weight, no plating, hallmarked.

Which smaller candlesticks does the line feature?

The Mini at approx. 40 cm, as well as the classic and the Poppy candlestick, each at approx. 39.5 cm.

Is it delivered in a gift box?

Yes, in high-quality packaging from the manufacture.

The largest candlestick in the line

Approx. 47 cm, with protruding leaves on the shaft—of the four candlesticks in the line, this is the most elaborate. It is made for tables where height contributes to the effect: long tables, high rooms, festive occasions.

The smaller models are the Mini at approx. 40 cm, as well as the classic and the Poppy candlestick, each at approx. 39.5 cm.

Two notes for use: the protruding leaves are solidly hammered and withstand normal handling, but should not be used as a grip when drying. And the taller a candlestick, the more noticeable any unevenness of the table surface becomes—it stands more securely on a set table with a tablecloth than on bare wood.
