925 Sterling Silver Baby Rattle Stars and Moon — Smooth handle, engravable

This 925 silver baby rattle features a five-pointed star with a crescent moon and three small stars as its head—openwork shapes like a window to the night sky, supported by a smooth, teardrop-shaped handle. This very handle makes this piece the engraving solution for the entire Star & Moon series: it is the only rattle in the series on which a name can be neatly placed.

Material and Craftsmanship

The five-pointed star is polished to a mirror finish; embedded in its surface is the crescent moon as a raised relief, surrounded by three smaller stars and round cut-outs. These cut-outs are the only places on the rattle where there are openings—the handle itself remains completely smooth and tapers into a teardrop shape, without grooves or loops. The rattle is crafted by the Italian silver manufacturer Zaramella.

Use and Development

From birth, the star serves as an object to grasp: the smooth teardrop shape lies securely in small hands, and the points offer additional edges to feel. After the first few months of life, most babies begin to move the piece independently. Later, when the rattle is no longer a toy, the smooth handle remains as an engraving surface, which is what distinguishes this piece from the other shapes in the series.

Care

Clean the smooth handle and the star head with warm water and mild dish soap, and dry with a soft cloth. The cut-outs in the star can be polished with a narrow silver polishing cloth. Aggressive cleaners and the dishwasher are unsuitable.
