Material and Workmanship

All eight pieces bear the same floral niello pattern in the botanical plant style of the Veliky Ustyug school: blossoms, tendrils, and leaves that extend over the cup, pot, and sugar bowl. Niello is not printing ink, not enamel, and not a coating, but a black metal alloy that is melted into engraved depressions and chemically insolubly bonded to the silver. What is on this service will still be there in thirty years — silver tarnishes over time, niello does not. SevChern has been applying this technique since 1933 with over 15 steps per piece and won the gold medal at the 1937 Paris World Exhibition. The teapot holds 550 ml, enough for four to five cups without refilling, and the sugar bowl holds 220 ml. Together, they create a fully set table for two, with no part missing.

A complete silver service as a wedding gift is a statement for decades: the couple uses it, shows it to guests, passes it on one day — not replaced after a year, but becoming more beautiful with time, because silver acquires character with every use. Care

Hand wash with lukewarm water and mild detergent, no dishwasher. The niello ornament is permanently melted in, normal cleaning does not harm it — but no silver dip. The matte silver surface can be refreshed with a soft silver polishing cloth. Store in the gift case.
