Dessert spoon 925 silver – Libra, gold-plated and niello

A dessert spoon featuring a zodiac sign is more than just cutlery — it is a small dedication to a specific person. For those born under Libra (Sept. 23–Oct. 22), this 925 sterling silver spoon displays the Libra symbol in its gold-plated bowl: finely engraved, filled with gold, and framed by a tranquil silver edge. At the end of the handle, a matte black niello floral ornament provides a counterpoint to the warm gold tone of the stem. A piece for autumn birthdays that won't disappear into a drawer after the first holiday dessert, but will instead remain on display in a cabinet.

Material and craftsmanship

The spoon is made of 925 sterling silver and is gold-plated on both the bowl and the handle. In the bowl, you will find the Libra sign with its two balanced scales, the classic representation of the zodiac sign — executed as a fine engraving and filled with gold, allowing the motif to stand out clearly from the shimmering silver bowl base. The entire handle features the same warm gold tone. At the end of the handle, where the hand holds the spoon, there is a floral ornament in the niello technique: a black inlay that is fused into finely pre-engraved lines, ground flat, and polished — like ink in silver. No paint, no coating: the ornament tends to deepen rather than fade with polishing. This niello technique has its roots in the silversmithing art of Veliky Ustyug, first mentioned in writing in 1683; the SevChern workshop continues this tradition to this day.

Astrologically, Libra stands for balance, aesthetic sense, and the desire for harmony. These qualities resonate in the motif without the need for words: in the Roman tradition, Justitia carries the scales as a symbol of balance and justice. Gifting someone this zodiac sign gives them a piece that feels perfectly tailored to them.

Usage and occasions

As a dessert spoon, this piece finds its place at festive meals, Sunday cake, or chocolate mousse for an anniversary — anywhere a spoon can be more than just a tool. It is particularly suitable as a gift for those born under Libra, for birthdays in autumn. It is equally appropriate for confirmation, anniversaries, as a wedding gift for a couple sharing this zodiac sign, or as a godchild gift with a personal connection. People who value both beauty and justice will find in this spoon a gift that lasts beyond the occasion — as a collector's item in one's own zodiac series or as the start of a complete cutlery set with the same motif.

Engraving and SilberVerse card

The bowl already bears the gold-plated zodiac symbol, the handle is gold-plated throughout, and the handle end shows the niello ornament — an additional engraving would damage these three surfaces and is therefore not part of the standard service. If you still wish to give the gift a personal touch, you can choose the SilberVerse card: a digitally designed photo card in 15 × 10 cm landscape format, available upon request with every order at no extra charge, individually tailored to the occasion and a beautiful counterpart to the zodiac motif on the spoon itself.

Care

Hand washing with a mild detergent and immediate dry polishing best preserve the shine and contrast. The dishwasher is taboo, as are silver dips or aggressive cleaning agents — both can damage the gold plating and the niello inlay. For storage, the dry gift case is sufficient; if necessary, a soft silver polishing cloth will restore its luster.

FAQ

What does the Libra symbol on this dessert spoon mean? Astrologically, Libra stands for balance, aesthetic sense, and the desire for harmony. In the gold-plated bowl, this becomes a visible gift — a classic zodiac emblem instead of letters or a quote.

For which birthdays is this dessert spoon suitable? The zodiac sign Libra includes birthdays from Sept. 23 to Oct. 22. For everyone celebrating during this period, the spoon is a gift with high recognition value — it works just as well as a godchild gift or a collector's item in the zodiac cutlery series.

How do I care for the spoon properly? Hand wash, polish dry immediately, and store in a dry place. You should avoid dishwashers and silver dips so that the gold plating and niello inlay retain their contrast.
