Special properties of products
Description
A 925 sterling silver corkscrew, the handle of which depicts a galloping hare in mid-leap — hind legs extended, front paws stretched out, ears laid back. Unlike heraldic, static animal motifs, this hare captures a moment from the field, modeled naturalistically with attention to anatomy, fur texture, and the line of movement. In hunting and wildlife iconography, the hare is a classic symbol of speed and alertness.
At a glance
- Material: 925 sterling silver, antique patina
- Silver weight of corkscrew: approx. 134 grams
- Total weight in case: approx. 417 grams
- Dimensions of corkscrew: 87 × 35 mm
- Dimensions of case: 159 × 199 × 40 mm, fabric-covered with velvet lining
- Motif: galloping hare, spiral worm
Material and workmanship
The material is 925 sterling silver, the classic standard of 92.5% fine silver, crafted as a solid casting. The visual impact of the hare is achieved through the antique patination: a thin, superficial blackening that remains visible in the recesses between the tufts of fur, in the eyes, and in the leg musculature, while the raised areas are polished to a shine. This makes the relief stand out in three dimensions, giving the hare a lifelike quality rather than a flat appearance. This blackening is not paint, lacquer, or coating — nor is it niello, which is a different technique involving molten sulfur-silver paste in engraved grooves. This is a surface treatment that also serves as a protective layer against further uncontrolled tarnishing. If necessary, the high points can be carefully repolished with a soft silver cloth, while the recesses retain their depth. The spiral worm is classically shaped and suitable for both modern and vintage natural corks.
Usage and occasions
The hare corkscrew is suitable for occasions where wine and naturalistic wildlife motifs meet: for hunters and foresters as a wine companion for game dishes, for wine connoisseurs with their own cellar who prefer natural motifs over industrial aesthetics, as a nature-inspired gift for men for milestone birthdays or retirement, as well as an anniversary gift for couples who share a love of wine and walks in the country.
Engraving and SilberVerse card
This piece cannot be engraved; as a personal touch, we offer a complimentary SilberVerse card. Upon request, we can include a personalized, custom-designed SilberVerse card in photo format (15 × 10 cm landscape) at no extra cost.
Care
Wipe dry after use; do not put in the dishwasher and do not use abrasive sponges. If there is wine residue on the spiral, rinse briefly with lukewarm water and dry immediately. The included case is ideal for storage, preferably with an anti-tarnish strip.
Frequently asked questions
Is the patina the same as niello?
No. Niello is a molten sulfur-silver paste used in engraved grooves. This is a superficial antique patina that serves as a protective layer against further tarnishing and remains visible as a dark tone in the recesses of the relief.
What is the total weight of the set?
The corkscrew alone weighs approx. 134 grams; the total weight including the fabric-covered case is approx. 417 grams.
Is engraving possible?
No. This piece cannot be engraved; as a personal touch, we offer a complimentary SilberVerse card.
