Description
A corkscrew made of 925 sterling silver, whose handle depicts a galloping hare in mid-leap – hind legs extended, front paws outstretched, ears laid back. Unlike heraldic animal motifs at rest, this hare is a snapshot from the field, naturally modeled with attention to anatomy, fur texture, and line of motion. In hunting and wildlife iconography, the hare traditionally symbolizes speed and alertness.

Material and Workmanship
The material is 925 sterling silver, meaning 92.5% pure silver in the classic standard, crafted as a solid casting. What visually enhances the hare is the antique patination: a thin, superficial blackening that remains dark in the depressions between the fur tufts, in the eyes, and on the leg muscles, while the raised areas shine polished. This makes the relief stand out plastically, making the hare appear lively instead of flat. This blackening is not a color, lacquer, or paint – and not niello either, which is a different technique using melted sulfur-silver paste in engraved depressions. This is a superficial coating that also acts as a protective layer against further uncontrolled tarnishing. The raised areas can be carefully repolished with a soft silver cleaning cloth if needed, while the depressions retain their depth. The helix spiral is classically shaped and well-suited for both modern and older natural corks.
Usage and Occasions
The hare corkscrew is suitable for occasions where wine and a naturalistic wildlife motif come together: for hunters and foresters as a wine companion for game cuisine, for wine connoisseurs with their own cellar and an appreciation for natural motifs instead of tool aesthetics, as a men's gift with a connection to nature for a milestone birthday or retirement, and as an anniversary gift for couples who share wine and walks in nature.
Engraving and SilberVerse Card
Upon request, an engraving is possible, usually on the smooth back or on the shaft below the hare figure – for example, initials, a date, or a short dedication. We will agree on the content, font, and position together before execution. Additionally, upon request, we can include a personal SilberVerse card in photo format (15 × 10 cm landscape) – individually designed, suitable for the occasion and currently free, even available without engraving.
Care
Wipe dry after use, no dishwasher, no abrasive sponge. If there are wine residues on the spiral, rinse briefly with lukewarm water and dry immediately. The included case is suitable for storage, ideally with an anti-tarnish strip.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is patination the same as niello?
No. Niello is a melted sulfur-silver paste in engraved depressions. This is a superficial antique patination that serves as a protective layer against further tarnishing and remains dark in the relief depressions.
How much does the set weigh in total?
The corkscrew alone weighs approx. 134 grams, and the total weight with the fabric-covered case is approx. 417 grams.
Is engraving possible?
Yes, upon request, usually on the back or on the shaft below the hare figure. We will clarify details before ordering.
