Why width makes the difference

A narrow frame confines a picture. A wide one elevates it: The silver surface creates distance between the motif and its surroundings, allowing the eye to settle before reaching the photo. Museums use the same effect when they employ large mats.

With the Berlin, this band is also curved. This creates a gradient from light to dark on the surface, which shifts with the viewing angle – the frame never appears flat, even without a single decorative motif.
