Description

Teapot & Tea Strainer Spoon in 925 Silver — a set that completes the tea ritual

Do you know the feeling when tea accessories stand next to each other but never really match? The tin from one shop, the spoon from another — both silver, yes, but visually worlds apart. Different ornamentation, different luster, no common thought behind them. The tea ritual deserves something better.

This set solves exactly that. The tea tin and tea strainer spoon come from the same collection — Nielloa Fantasie — and feature the same floral niello ornament on both pieces. When you unscrew the tin and lay the spoon next to it, you immediately see: they belong together. This is no coincidence; this is design.

Both pieces are created in the SevChern manufactory in Veliky Ustyug, Northern Russia — a city known for its silversmithing since 1683. 925 sterling silver, heavy material, precise ornamentation, dark niello deeply embedded in the engraved lines. Together, the two pieces weigh approximately 228 g of pure silver. You feel it when you hold the set in your hand.

The Tea Tin: 180 Grams of Silver for Loose Tea

The tea tin is the heart of this tea set. With a height of 108 mm and a diameter of 60 mm, it has the ideal size for loose tea — whether Darjeeling, Assam, Chinese white tea, or flavored blends. The screw lid closes tightly, keeping moisture and foreign odors out, and protecting the tea aroma as a high-quality tea tin should.

Weighing approximately 180 g of 925 sterling silver, it feels heavy and stable in the hand. No wobbling, no bending — this is real silver with a wall thickness that gives the piece its dignity. The floral niello ornament of the Nielloa Fantasie collection runs across its outer surface: curved arabesques, floral motifs, rocaille elements — all in deep black niello inlay, which forms a sharp, elegant contrast with the polished silver.

The effect is remarkable: depending on the light, the surface shimmers between warm silver luster and velvety-dark ornamental lines. This is not a printed decoration — the niello is part of the metal itself.

The Tea Strainer Spoon: Nielloa Fantasie — Loose Tea Without Hooks, Without Sticking

Anyone who regularly works with loose tea knows the small annoyances: tea strainers that get stuck on the rim of the cup. Hooks that drip when pulled out. Strainer bowls that are too small, allowing fine leaves to float through. This tea strainer spoon is designed differently.

The pear-shaped, perforated strainer bowl reliably holds back the tea leaves — the sieve is fine enough for most tea varieties, large enough for water to circulate freely. No hooks, no hanging. You hold the spoon by the handle, immerse the strainer bowl, wait for the brewing time, and remove it. Done. Clean. Without drips on the tablecloth.

With a length of 153 mm, the tea strainer spoon lies comfortably in the hand — even with deep cups or tea glasses. The handle ends in a floral rocaille finial with niello ornament: the same floral motif you see on the tea tin. This detail makes all the difference — not just two silver pieces, but a well-thought-out tea ensemble.

The connecting element is the ornament. On the tin, it runs all around the body; on the spoon, it crowns the handle end. Anyone who sees both pieces side by side immediately recognizes the manufactory's common signature.

Niello on Tin and Spoon — Why the Ornament Never Peels Off

Many people see niello for the first time and ask: Is that a coating? Can it come off? The answer is no — and the "why" explains why niello silver has survived for millennia.

Niello is not a paint, lacquer, or coating. It is an alloy of silver, copper, lead, and sulfur, which is liquefied at high temperatures and melted into engraved depressions in the silver. The niello chemically and physically bonds with the surrounding metal. It is literally part of the piece — not an application from the outside, but an infusing from within.

Afterward, the surface is ground and polished until the floral ornament emerges as a sharp, deep black contour line from the polished silver. The result lasts a lifetime. It cannot peel off because there is nothing to detach. And with each polishing, the contrasts become sharper — niello silver becomes more beautiful over time, not worse.

The SevChern manufactory in Veliky Ustyug has refined this technique for generations. Veliky Ustyug is one of the few cities in the world where niello silversmithing is still actively practiced — in Europe, the technique has largely disappeared. What you hold in this set is the true continuation of a 3000-year-old goldsmithing technique, produced for everyday life in the 21st century.

Three hallmarks on each piece attest to its authenticity: the 925 mark for the silver content, the manufacturer's mark of SevChern, and the Russian state hallmark — three independent proofs of the material.

228 g 925 Silver — Gift for Mother's Day, Father's Day, Wedding

This tea set is one of the most beautiful gifts you can give a tea lover — and the season for it is right now.

Mother's Day — the set fits like no other. Does Mom drink tea? Then you know what to give her: not just another everyday product, but a silver ensemble that she will reach for every morning with a different feeling. The tin on the tea service tray, the spoon next to it — a quiet, beautiful ritual that reminds her of you.

Father's Day — for the father who prefers tea to coffee, or for the tea connoisseur among friends who truly has everything. 228 g of pure silver, triple-stamped, in a gift box: This is a gift that will surprise.

For weddings and significant anniversaries, the tea set is an alternative to the usual silver wedding gifts — something that is used daily, not just put on a shelf. Also for milestone birthdays — 50, 60, 70 — a silver tea service is a gift with weight, both literally and figuratively.

Engraving — and the gift becomes unique

Both parts can be engraved. An initial on the lid, a date on the end of the spoon handle, a short dedication — engraving transforms the set from a beautiful gift into something no one else possesses. Only with engraving can it be called a unique piece.

Upon request, we can include a personalized SilberVerse card in photo format (10×15 cm) — individually designed, suitable for the occasion. Currently free of charge. Simply specify your request in the order field.

The gift box is included. You don't need to wrap anything extra — open the packaging, place the set inside, hand it over. Ready to give straight from the manufactory.

Care & FAQ

Niello silver is easy to care for — the ornamentation cannot come off, it does not react to moisture, it does not fade.

  • Hand wash with warm water and mild dish soap — no dishwasher
  • Dry thoroughly after washing
  • For shine: use a soft silver polishing cloth, circular motions
  • Niello does not require special care — polish like regular silver
  • Store tea tin in a dry place, do not leave damp tea in it

What is included in the set?
The set consists of two parts: a tea tin (H 108 × Ø 60 mm, approx. 180 g 925 sterling silver with screw lid) and a tea strainer spoon (L 153 × W 35 mm, approx. 48 g 925 sterling silver with a pear-shaped strainer bowl). Both parts feature the niello ornament of the Nielloa Fantasie collection. The gift box is included.

Do the tea tin and tea strainer spoon match visually?
Yes — and that is the core of this set. Both pieces come from the same collection and feature the same floral niello ornament. The tea tin has it on its body, the tea strainer spoon on the end of its handle. Anyone who places both next to each other immediately sees the common signature of the manufactory.

How much loose tea fits in the tea tin?
The tea tin has an inner diameter of approx. 60 mm with a height of approx. 108 mm — typically 50–80 g of loose tea depending on the tea variety and fill level. The screw lid closes tightly and reliably protects the aroma.

Can both parts be engraved?
Yes, both parts can be engraved — the tea tin (e.g., on the lid or the smooth area of the body) and the tea strainer spoon (on the handle). Engraving transforms the set into a unique piece with a personal message — ideal for Mother's Day, weddings, anniversaries, or birthdays. Simply specify your engraving request in the order field.

What is niello — can it peel off?
Niello is an alloy of silver, copper, lead, and sulfur, which is melted into engraved depressions in the silver. It is not a paint, lacquer, or coating — but part of the metal itself, chemically and physically bonded. Peeling off is technically impossible. Polishing even deepens the contrasts — niello silver becomes more beautiful over time.
